Bringing Luck in the Bedroom

January 29th, 2010

All the attention you pay shopping around for the right bedroom furniture set, devising the space, layout, design, textures and colour scheme, will pay you dividends. Especially with the benefit of Feng Shui channelling the flow of positive energy, you’ll surely find peace and bring luck into your life and your new bedroom.

So let’s talk about what needs to happen before you can begin to enjoy the comforts and pleasures of your new bedroom.

If your new bedroom is within the walls of a property you’ve just purchased or acquired, then congratulations. You have so much work to do before you can get your property to look and feel the way you feel happy with. I am assuming that this place is to be your own home, although of course, you could be a contractor or property developer keen to present the best possible bedroom design ideas for your high end clients. I will concentrate on the matters regarding the bedroom and hope that you may also be inspired with ideas for the remainder of your home.

From my own experience I cleared out my room, ripping up the carpets and repainting the walls to give it a lighter fresher feel than I had been used to and swore that I wouldn’t be clogging up every available space with something just for the sake of it. The one thing I had promised myself was a sturdy king sized bed. I happened to be working on two refurbishment at this time so was able to get a good deal on two separate beds, although the sales assistant did try to retract their full offer made to me not 24 hours before. Anyhow with my new beds on order and the color coordinated flooring to be laid. I had the task of choosing the bedding appropriate for the upcoming winter, but more importantly to match and compliment the beds frame and the carpet I had in my head.

Getting back to what I’m trying to achieve…

Just imagine if the positioning of specific personal objects around you can create a flow of positive energy throughout your immediate surroundings and increase your well being and you’ll begin to understand the magnitude of what can be achieved by strategically designing the layout of your home, office, studio or bedroom, following the ideas of Feng Shui.

Interior design students will have an advantage having been taught how to use differing materials and textures that match, compliment and contrast with each other to produce a final channel for their vision. The ultimate effect of this work is to relax the individuals receiving the benefit of the new design work.

So how do you create the perfect environment for personal relaxation on a deep level. So what level of relaxation will have you in a meditative state and how can you direct the energy toward you? Is it all just a matter of throwing a few big neutral cushions or hanging a darker shade to bring down the lighting and sooth your eyes. Also baring in mind that the majority of people may not have large areas of space that will allow for every choice of position for the bedroom furnishing, so we may just have to make do with what is available, creating the impression of space by managing with less clutter.

I personally chose to design my bedroom space with natural color elements, giving my surroundings an earthy and calm feel. The space was not the greatest so I made a point of keeping everything I wasn’t using right now out of sight, although I haven’t yet found the right plant that I would like to have in my room at time of writing, I know that placing a life baring element in my room will add a sense of health and continued growth to the energy of the room.

I would urge you to take a look at the current layout of your own bedroom and if needed, rearrange the basic design and positioning of your furnishing to allow the greatest flow of the energy to flow in your direction.

You’ll never look at a room the same again.

7 Tips and Ideas in Organizing Your Bedroom

January 25th, 2010

Organizing your bedroom is a must, as this place should be a place of relaxation and rest. Keeping your bedroom clutter-free is also a good way to make your bedroom free from stress as well.

Even if the bedroom is a private space in your home, don’t think that there is no organizing need for it. Your bedroom is where you rest after a stressful day, and it is where you start your day, thus making it clutter-free and stress-free is very important.

To help you start organizing your bedroom, here are some tips and ideas you can start with.

1. Get rid of things that do not belong in the bedroom. Magazines and books, laundry, sports equipment… put them where they should belong. Segregate paper clutter and get rid of those that not useful.

2. Start with your closet. It may be a little space in your bedroom but a disorganized closet often leads to a cluttered bedroom, especially if you have more clothing than what you closet can actually hold.

3. Get storage boxes to store extra things you get in your bedroom. Label your boxes and segregate articles of clothing that you haven’t used for a long time and those that could not be used anymore. Only leave things that you really need and you use.

4. Invest in drawers, storage boxes and organizers. You may want to add accessory organizers, hat and shoe organizers and storage boxes to add more space for your articles of clothing. You may explore other storage areas as well. Under-bed storage can also be a good idea. Your hamper is also an important storage for your dirty laundry. If you have one in your bedroom, make sure that you don’t let it overflow with your dirty laundry.

5. Make dividers for large spaces in your closet and for those drawers intended for small items such as belts, undies, and other small items to prevent them from mixing up.

6. Clean as you go. Organizing your bedroom also involves making them clean and free from dust. As you empty your closet and organize your whole bedroom, you may want to clean it as well before putting things back.

7. Have a system in organizing your closet. Organizing by outfit is a great idea but you can also organize by outfit and by color. Place frequently used items within reach. This will help you prevent digging into your clothes looking for your favorite shirt or dress and bringing back the clutter into your closet.

One important challenge in organizing your bedroom is to maintain it clutter-free. To help you with it, you can take time each day to get rid of bedroom clutter. Spend time to put dirty laundry in the laundry area, put books and magazines in their proper places after using them and try to pick those eyesores in the bedroom as soon as you see them. As much as possible, don’t bring your work in the bedroom. Aside from being stressful, this can also add more to the clutter.

Start with these organizing tips and make sure that you maintain a clutter-free bedroom to make you sleep better and relax better in your bedroom.

Your Haven From the Outside World
Simply put, a bedroom is a space in which you can take refuge from the rat race, rest and reinvigorate yourself. It can be a small and utilitarian niche, a grand suite of rooms, or anything in between. It depends upon the size of two things: your home and your budget. Of little importance is the size of your bedroom, it has to provide just one purpose. It has to provide for you a comfortable place to sleep – everything else is just icing on the cake.
And sleeping comfortably, of course, starts with the bed.

Choosing a Bed
Beds come in a number of sizes and configurations. Bigger rooms can comfortably fit a Queen or a King sized bed; smaller areas a single or a full sized bed. You can opt to have just a frame to comfortably fit the mattress and box spring, you can opt to have a headboard, or you can opt to have a headboard and footboard. Beds can be elaborate and ornate, or basic and functional.

Beds are made to match any design theme you can envision, so let your creative side emerge when designing your bedroom. But keep in mind that you must budget yourself strictly so that you can be prepared for the single most essential purchase for your comfort: the mattress.

The Importance of the Mattress
The comfort of the bed is all about the mattress. Picking a mattress is a tough difficult decision, because there are dozens of brands to pick from, and a bewildering array of styles and characteristics. You ought to pick the right firmness; you must take durability into account; and, of course, you must be aware of the impact on your budget. In the long run, however, that you should be diligently careful about selecting the right mattress.

Closets
All bedrooms, even the smallest, should have a closet. If you are lucky enough to live in a home that is spacious enough, you may have a walk-in closet with plenty of area for storage. Even the smallest closets can be arranged to greatly increase storage space by using one of the many “closet systems” to be had.

The Proper Bedroom Décor
The master bedroom fulfills its purpose when it is restful and well-planned, and that involves selecting the right paint shades and/or textures for the walls and the window coverings. You can pick any style from French to art deco, but take care that your selections are soft and understated. All elements of the room should be conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Consider a Master Bath
If you are considering a complete remodeling job and increasing the size of your home, think about installing a master bath. A personal bathroom inside the master bedroom suite might add much value to your home as well as provide for you a lifetime of convenience and comfort.

Renovating Your Bedroom: Money Well Spent
Remodeling your bedroom is the sort of undertaking in which you don’t have to part with a great deal of money to be prepared for a huge upgrade. Considering that it is so important to your mental and physical health to get a good night’s sleep, you will not regret spending cash remodeling your bedroom.
